WORKSHEET
Comparing Different Voices
A "WORKSHEET" is simply a way for you to look squarely at yourself and see where you are. Like a GPS system in your car or in your phone, you have to know where you're at, honestly, clearly and completely.
At the beginning of these worksheets, take time to pause and quiet yourself, breathing and relaxing as mentioned in the "HOW TO USE" tab. This is a great time for reflection as to how to care for yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit for inspiration and insight as you work through this worksheet.
The goal of this particular worksheet is to learn to identify your wounded thoughts and how they compare to the heart and mind of God.
The negative thoughts you have come to believe through your life experiences will become magnified in the experience of loss. The negative messages of the world, in contrast to the heart and mind of God, will also become magnified. Learning to make note of which thoughts you will chose to listen to and which thoughts you chose to dismiss and release into God's care will impact your feelings and behavior. Feelings and behaviors change as current, God-inspired interpretations of the event changes.
Step One: Write down in sentence form, those thoughts from the last worksheet in the previous section that were close to the negative range of the scale. You may want to expand the awareness of these negative thoughts by becoming more aware of how you talk to yourself. The following thoughts are commonly associated with wounds flowing from unmet core human needs (click HERE for a review of the worksheet entitled: "Seeing Your Early Losses Clearly") .....
* I often say to myself, it is not safe to trust, talk, feel.....
* I often say to myself, I should.....
* I often say to myself, I am.....
* I often say to myself, no one cares about this - I am alone and I have to fix it by myself.
* I often say to myself, I don't deserve.....
* I often say to myself, I should have expected this, it's what always happens to me.....
* I often say to myself, why did you.....???
Add any additional questions you may frequently be saying to yourself!!!
Step Two: In a previous page, we offered a link to a YouTube 8-minute presentation "How To Recognize God's Voice Speaking to You" by Graham Cooke. Listen to that again!
Consider the heart and mind of God's love in response to these negative thoughts. What are the Scripture verses, songs, images or contrasting thoughts that came to mind at the end of the last worksheet, as you were praying and thinking about that worksheet scale? What was the personal truth being given to you?
For example, if one of your frequent thoughts is: "I am not worthy of being loved", He might say in reply: "You are precious in my eyes, I chose you."
Write these truths down specifically so that you can return to them each new day. That truth will begin to imprint within your brain and override the negative lies.
