Inheritance for Whom?
The following is encouragement for you as if Jesus Christ Himself was speaking. These are meant to give you insight into His Heart, how He thinks, and how He feels about you. Let this encouragement begin to dwell deep within you!
Let no foreigner who has bound himself to the Lord say, “The Lord will surely exclude me from his people.” And let not any eunuch complain, “I am only a dry tree.” For this is what the Lord says:
“To the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant - to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.
And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to serve him, to love the name of the Lord and to worship him, and all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant - these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
The Sovereign Lord declares - he who gathers the exiles from Israel: “I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered.”
ISAIAH 56:3-8 (NIV)
Here is a section of Scripture that I desperately want you to fully understand, and I want it to sink deeply into your mind and heart because it will bear much fruit in your life.
During the days when this passage was written, those people (eunuchs) without children were shunned and made outcasts; the common belief was that sin in their lives had caused this barrenness and they were as bad as a leper. Also, any and all foreigners were considered unclean, heathens, not anyone that God would even pay attention, nor even be interested in! Even today, in some circles, some people are considered “in” and others are assumed “out”.
The common bond between these two groups of people is: no inheritance! They didn’t deserve one!
But the Isaiah, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, painted a very different picture, a picture which accurately reflects my heart.
You see, what I am interested in is very simple: I want my brothers and sisters to get to know me, to know how I think about them, to know how I feel about them. There is no person on the face of this earth who is unimportant to me, no throwaways, no castaways. Anyone and everyone trying to know me will indeed do so. And wherever they are in life is of no consequence to me; anytime is a good time to meet me!
You may sometimes consider yourself as a spiritual eunuch, not bearing any fruit in your life, not noticed, with no legacy, alone, watching life pass you by. But when you simply call my name, I will write your name on the walls of my “temple”.
Or, you may consider yourself sometimes a spiritual foreigner; thinking others know me more than you. You may even think that your background and history would keep you outside the “Temple”, and all you can do is watch others enter the “temple”. But when you simply call my name, I will give you joy in my house of prayer.
Know this: you are NOT a eunuch or a foreigner, but rather you are a specially noticed, highly valued, and dearly loved brother or sister. My goal for today is to have you know me, and for me to write your name in a prominent place in my heart! Read the last sentence in the Scripture above; even if you think you are one of the "others" in life, my work is to "gather" you to me! Come, be with me!
I really like you, and I really love you!
PAUSE … Invite Him to be with you; let Him quiet you with His Love.
REFLECT … What is God saying to you? Can you now hear Him calling you better than in your past?
1) Do you ever feel like a eunuch or a foreigner or an exile?
2) If so, why?
3) Do you think God does really does notice you, and would really want you to be to alongside Him?
4) Do you understand what “inheritance” directly from God means?
5) In your particular inheritance from God, what might it look like?
6) God hasn’t lost you; you just have to seek him. What might stand in the way of this?
RECEIVE … You can't move forward if you believe you are unworthy and unnoticed, someone who would be seen as a eunuch, foreigner or simply one of the "others". Chose today to believe what the Scripture above means for you!
