WORKSHEET

Telling My Story

A "WORKSHEET" is simply a way for you to look squarely at yourself and see where you are.  Like a GPS system in your car or in your phone, you have to know where you're at, honestly, clearly and completely.

At the beginning of these worksheets, take time to pause and quiet yourself.  This is a great time for reflection as to how to care for yourself.  Ask the Holy Spirit for inspiration and insight as you work through this worksheet.

Worksheets can be printed so you can reflect on them later, or perhaps your device has the ability to make notes right on the Worksheet page, then you can save the Worksheet in your device for later review.

Healing begins to happen as a person tells the story of the particular losses in their life, with the resulting feelings and memories.  This action is really the very first part of seeking healing and crying out for comfort.

The following Worksheet is meant as a tool for you to begin to understand yourself, and also to describe yourself, in much more detail.

As you work through answering these questions it is important that you realize that you are TELLING YOUR STORY rather than RELIVING YOUR STORY.  You are TELLING YOUR STORY TO SOMEONE WHO CARES ABOUT YOU AND LOVES YOU.  YOU ARE TELLING YOUR STORY SO THAT YOU CAN CARE FOR YOURSELF AS YOU LISTEN TO YOUR OWN HEART.

The following questions are designed as an aid to help you tell your story as a comforted narrative that becomes part of your self-awareness and long term memory.  In that process you will become more aware of how this event/loss impacts your everyday life.

When answering these questions, you can express yourself in "feeling" words like you'll see below, or use a "word picture" to describe your feelings.  There are many examples in, for instance, the Psalms where David used comparisons to express himself.  Psalm 42 describes a deer panting for water, describing how thirsty David was for God's care.  Some people actually draw a picture of how they are feeling, for example a drawing of a Tsunami washing them away to describe being overwhelmed in life. Use your imagination!

The following are the questions you will be asking yourself each week over the step by step process of healing.  Each question is to be answered over time, not quickly. For each question Pause, Reflect and Receive a truth that Prepares you to Hear His Heart and Mind for Rewriting your Story transformed by His love and His perspective.

Again, the following is a preview of questions you will see in detail, as we continue in Comfort.Guide

* Due to this loss in my life, I feel/felt: (e.g., shocked, terrified, angry, inadequate, confused, abandoned, etc.).

* I lost the following core needs: (e.g., a sense of safety, security, companionship, innocence, trust, hope, purpose, etc.).

* I came to believe: (e.g., I am alone, I have been abandoned, I am being punished, I am guilty, I’ll never recover, the sadness will never end, etc.).

* I survived by developing the following behaviors:  (e.g., I isolated myself, I shut down feelings and emotions, etc.)  Read the earlier Education page: "Defense Mechanisms"; click "HERE".

As you begin to cry out to God, it's OK to refer to all these thoughts, beliefs and feelings!  He already knows them and understands you!!!

In order to clearly understand your loss, without putting guilt or judgement on your thoughts and feelings, ask yourself questions like the following:

* What would you want to say?

* Who do you want to say it to?

* What have you been saying to yourself?

Now that you have finished the worksheet, it's a great time to talk with Jesus about what has become more clear to you.  As you do this, remember that He is with you, He sees you, He hears your call for help, He understands you with deep empathy, and His heart of Love intervenes to work all things together for good.

And a good conversation goes both ways, so be sure to then listen for all the insights He has for you!  He will make the Scriptures you need come alive, He may use songs, He may use images, He may use "word-pictures", etc., all prepared especially for you and only you at this time of your healing and growth!
