Telling My Story - I Felt...
Telling My Story - I Felt...
A "WORKSHEET" is simply a way for you to look squarely at yourself and see where you are. Like a GPS system in your car or in your phone, you have to know where you're at, honestly, clearly and completely.
At the beginning of these worksheets, take time to pause and quiet yourself, breathing and relaxing as mentioned in the "HOW TO USE" tab. This is a great time for reflection as to how to care for yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit for inspiration and insight as you work through this worksheet.
Think of painful memory of a painful event...
Give language (a word) to the feelings you experienced during this incident.
This begins the process of moving the trauma memory from the right brain (short-term memory) to the left brain. On a piece of paper, please write words to express and become aware of the feelings you experienced during this incident (e.g., sad, lonely, terrified, etc.).
Describe your feelings of how the incident made you feel. Use a “word picture” in sentence form for this exercise.
This begins the process of becoming more aware of the depth of these feelings as you continue to tell your story. For example, “I felt like I was run over by a truck.”, or “I felt like the ground fell out from under my feet.”
Describe your feelings of how the incident made you feel. Draw an actual “feeling picture” for this part of this exercise.
A “feeling picture” is always relational and symbolic. It can express feelings such as up/down relationships, powerful/servant, a peaceful or chaotic atmosphere, etc. Some people even prefer using certain colors to help express feelings.
